New Zealand - Tour DestinationClick here for Trip Reports of previous tours Kokako by David Shackelford
New Zealand, known by Maori people as the “Land of the Long White Cloud”, is a country of infinite scenic beauty and fantastically friendly people. Although not blessed with a huge number of bird species, the country is home to three endemic families, the strange Kiwis, the New Zealand Wrens and Wattlebirds, and over sixty endemic species. During our comprehensive tour, we cover both North and South Island and a number of smaller islands including Stewart Island, where we search for the Southern Brown Kiwi. We will visit Pureora Forest for Kokako and Rifleman, take several cruises on the icy waters of the South Pacific for some of the richest assemblages of pelagic seabirds in the world, visit Tiri Tiri Matangi Island for Little Spotted Kiwi, Saddleback, Stitchbird and the flightless Takahe. In spectacular Fiordland Park, we will look for the cute Rock Wren, hulking Keas and Fiordland Crested Penguins.
Please contact the Rockjumper Office should you have any queries about this tour.
