The Macaronesian Islands of the Western Atlantic stretch from the Azores south to the remote Cape Verdes, and support a selection of landbird endemics and seabirds colonies. The sun-drenched Canary Islands, a Spanish archipelago lying off Morocco, harbor eight regional, endemic and superb pelagic and desert birds. We will visit both the moist, forested slopes of volcanic Tenerife and the arid plains of Fuerteventura. Targets include Laurel and Bolle’s Pigeons, Canary Islands Stonechat, Blue Chaffinch, Bulwer’s Petrel, Black-bellied Sandgrouse and Houbara Bustard. These islands offer a pleasant week’s birding with comfortable hotels, fine food, stunning scenery and fascinating endemic birds.

The Cape Verde archipelago consists of ten larger islands, that are definitely well off the beaten track. We will be some of few birders ever to venture here. Up to fourteen species are considered endemic to Cape Verde and these include some of the world’s rarest birds. We will see the entire world population of less than 30 Bourne’s Herons and other endemics include Alexander’s and Neglected Kestrel, Bannerman’s Buzzard, Raso Lark, Cape Verde Warbler and Iago Sparrow. We will visit some impressive seabird colonies and hope to see Cape Verde and Little Shearwater, Fea’s Petrel, White-faced Storm-Petrel and the only Magnificent Frigatebirds in the Western Hemisphere.

Please note that we are not offering a standard set departure tour to Macaronesia during 2010. We are however still arranging customized private tours to this country and we will gladly assist you in arranging the perfect guided birding or wildlife adventure to Macaronesia for you.
