Great Britain: Birds & History - Tour Destination Long-eared Owl by Dave Kutilek
Home to millions of birdwatchers, the UK is a surprisingly impressive birding destination. This tour is timed to see virtually all of the British Isles regular breeding birds, a total of around 200 species. Avian highlights include nesting colonies of Atlantic Puffin and Black Guillemot, Eurasian Bittern, Corncrake, Red Kite, White-tailed Eagle, the rare Eurasian Capercaillie, Red and Black Grouse, Eurasian Dotterel, Bearded Reedling, Dartford Warbler and Scottish Crossbill. In addition to the avifauna, Great Britain is blessed with many familiar historical sites and some wonderful scenery. We will visit the rolling hills of the Scottish Highlands, the ancient woodlands and off-shore islands of Northumberland, the chalklands of Oxfordshire and ancient Stonehenge. Other notable historical sites include famous Holy Island, the site of the first monastery in England, the Roman Hadrian’s Wall stretching across Cumbria and Northumberland, and the historic cities of Edinburgh and London with their famous castles, palaces and museums.
