Turkey Tour Destination
Steeped in history, this ancient land has played host to the Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman civilizations, and during our birding exploration we will take time to visit the most fabulous antiquities of these days of glory. On the bird front, we will visit the fabled Arabian deserts between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, where we will search for Bruce’s Scops-Owl, See-see Partridge, Black-bellied Sandgrouse and Desert Finch.
In contrast to the parched desert landscapes, are the cool waters of various deltas and lakes that hold globally threatened species, including Marbled and White-headed Ducks and Pygmy Cormorant. The surrounding steppes are the place to search for migrating Demoiselle Cranes and Great and Little Bustards. At the Bosphorus Straits, we may witness the spectacular spring migration of thousands of thermalling storks, eagles, buzzards and sparrowhawks. In the dwarf Rhododendrons of the Pontic Mountains, we will hunt for lekking Caucasian Black Grouse and in the Taurus Mountains, the fabled Caspian Snowcock, as well as Lammergeier, Wallcreeper and Snow Finch, are possible.
Please note that we are not offering a standard set departure tour to Turkey during 2010. We are however still arranging customized private tours to this country and we will gladly assist you in arranging the perfect guided birding or wildlife adventure to Turkey for you.
Please contact the Rockjumper Office should you have any queries about this tour.
