Jesper Hornskov hails from Denmark where he became addicted to birding at a very tender age. At 16 he was already birding internationally and this later led to long backpacking trips through Australia, Papua New Guinea, Malaysia, India/Nepal, the Indonesian islands of Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi, Halmahera & Timor, the Philippines and China. In China, Jesper discovered the migration hotspot of Beidaihe, on the coast of Hebei, east of Beijing, and his visit to China became permanent when he met and married in the country. Later he relocated to the Tibetan Plateau where he began studying birds on passage as well as resident and breeding species. Jesper began bird guiding in 1994 and has now led more than 50 tours of 1-4 weeks’ duration throughout China. During the course of these adventures, he has racked up over 1,000 bird species in the country! In 1997 the Hornskov family moved to Beidaihe where they still reside and Jesper has seen more than 360 species within five kilometers of their family home. |
