Guyana, a small South American country nestled on the Atlantic Coast east of Venezuela, hosts some of the last relatively unexplored wildernesses on Earth. The variety of pristine habitats, from lowland rainforests and the cool savannas of Surama Mountain to the waterways of the famed Rupununi and Kaieteur, one of the world’s highest waterfalls, ensures that this magical destination has something to offer every birder. Locations we visit include Iwokrama, Atta and Surama Lodges and the Karanambu Ranch. Here we search for Guianan Cock-of-the-rock, Scarlet Ibis, Guianan Red Cotinga, Capuchinbird and Harpy Eagle, among many birding highlights that can be anticipated. Mammals form a major emphasis of this tour and we can expect species ranging from the amazing Giant Anteater to Giant River Otter and a good chance for Jaguar. Those wishing to visit Kaieteur Falls and view it from the air, will have the opportunity to do it so before starting our main tour. A post tour extension to Lethem will allow us to see a most wanted species; the Sun Parakeet and much besides. Guyana is fast becoming recognized as one of South America’s top birding and wildlife destinations and we invite you to explore the natural wonders of this wild land with us.
